Singapore, 23 March 2014 – Leaders from across the PwC global network express their heartfelt condolences and pay special tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Founding Father of modern Singapore:
“We, at PwC Singapore, are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Founding Father of modern Singapore.
“We pay tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew,
“For his vision, courage and wisdom,
“For devoting his entire life to build a first world nation.
“Let us always remember his ideals and what he stood for,
“Let us build on his foundation,
“Let us keep Singapore truly exceptional for generations to come.”
Yeoh Oon Jin, Executive Chairman, PwC Singapore
“Not many men are remembered so fondly in leading a country through such change and difficult external environments. Mr. Lee left his mark on so many in Singapore and around the world - he will be always remembered positively for his efforts, results but most importantly....his character!”
Robert Moritz, Chairman & Senior Partner, PwC United States
“We at PwC are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.”
“He was an astute strategist, a patriarch and a visionary man in every respect - a wonderful statesman and an indisputably transformative leader whose influence reached far beyond his own country. Under his leadership, Singapore has been transformed and despite its relatively small geography, now stands as a giant on the world stage and makes every Singaporean proud. To me, personally, he was a hero and will remain as such forever.”
“We send our deepest condolences to the Lee family, to our PwC Singapore colleagues and to all the people of Singapore.”
Silas Yang, Chairman & Senior Partner, PwC China and Hong Kong
“I would like to express my sadness over the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the father of Singapore and this is a time for Singapore to gather unity and solidarity. There is so much coverage of his life here in Hong Kong and China and he has been one of my big icons.”
“I am sure the whole of Singapore is saddened over this, but must feel the blessing of having had such a great giant in founding and leading Singapore. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Singapore people.”
Cassie Wong, Managing Partner, PwC China and Hong Kong
“On behalf of all German PwC partners and staff, I would like to express our sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. We all very much admire Mr. Lee's outstanding achievements for Singapore and will always remember his strong and courageous character. Our thoughts are with all Singaporean citizens at this difficult time.”
Norbert Winkeljohann, Senior Partner, PwC Germany
“The world not just Singapore mourns the loss of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. There are very few leaders who capture the minds and inspire their people and country to unite and reach much higher levels of achievement. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew will be missed and remembered for this accomplishment.”
Bill McFarland, CEO & Senior Partner, PwC Canada
“Korea's President Park Geun-hye made a special tribute, calling Mr. Lee ‘a friend of our people’ who offered ‘precious wisdom’ that contributed to the development of the bilateral relationship between Korea and Singapore. I hope it will be a source of comfort to you [Singapore] to know that Mr. Lee will be remembered by Korean people in this way.
“Please accept the most sincere condolences and sympathy from all at PwC Korea.”
KT Ahn, Chairman & Territory Senior Partner, PwC Korea
“The model of a modern, progressive and prosperous city state put forward by Mr. Lee remains the outstanding example we learn from and compare ourselves to, including in Dubai. His contribution to Singapore, Asia and the world is immeasurable and we send our deepest condolences to our colleagues at PwC in Singapore and to all Singaporeans.”
Hani Ashkar, Senior Partner, PwC Middle East
“It is indeed a very sad moment not only for Singapore and its people but for all of us in the developing world. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew is highly respected in Africa and visible proof of what visionary and strong leadership can contribute to the development of a nation. May his soul rest in peace.”
