Leading Big 4 global professional services firm PwC reaffirms commitment to Myanmar

Yangon, 10 May 2016 – Three and a half years after its return to Myanmar, the world’s largest professional services firm, PwC, reaffirms its commitment to and confidence in Myanmar by expanding into a brand new office more than four times the size of its first.

At an event marking the official opening of the firm’s new office in Myanmar Centre, PwC welcomed dignitaries and local business leaders to speak about the opportunities and potential of Southeast Asia’s rising star.

Said Chao Choon Ong, Managing Director, PwC Myanmar:

“Myanmar has come a very long way in a very short time. This is testament to the potential that Myanmar as an economy has to offer to the region and possibly even to the world. Over the past three and a half years, PwC Myanmar has similarly grown and has taken roots in the country.

“As a network of firms across the world, PwC is both global and local. We are committed to the development of Myanmar. We have invested heavily in building up a dynamic team of professionals, drawn mainly from the local talent pool. Each of our local staff is given an overseas secondment for international exposure, and works directly with a team of global specialists to gain professional experience in tax, risks and advisory fields.

“Aside from contributing to professional development, we have also been doing our part in giving back to the less privileged in local communities. We have an active corporate responsibility programme which involves not just our staff in Myanmar, but also our people from PwC Singapore.”

Elaborating further on the potential of Myanmar, Jasmine Thazin Aung, Director, PwC Myanmar said:

“Following the peaceful elections and transition of government, the rapid expansion of key sectors like telecommunications, real estate and banking, and the opening of the Yangon Stock Exchange, Myanmar is poised for strong economic growth that will transform the society and the physical landscape of the country.
